Life Lessons Ft. Tim McGraw | A Letter to Skylar

“Daughters Like You Are Fairies. They Make Their Parents Lives Magical Like A Surreal Fairytale.” ~ Anonymous

Let’s Blog Over Sky Turning 12!

I can’t believe in a few days it will have been twelve years since Skylar has been part of my life. She’s stolen all of our hearts. She has been the biggest blessing. She has taught me so much about love, selflessness, patience, and kindness. My Girl absolutely brings out the best in everyone around her. She is so warm and gracious to every person she comes across. Skylar is growing into the most beautiful, kindest, smartest girl inside and out. I am proud to say the mini version of myself is way better than the original.

Now that she’s almost twelve, with the help of Tim McGraw, there are some valuable life lessons that I instill in/ and remind her of:

“You know there’s a light that glows by the front door? Don’t forget the key’s under the mat. When childhood stars shine, Always stay humble and kind.”

You’re at a pivotal stage in your life. You’re changing. Your friends are changing. This is also one of the most exciting times in your life. You’re learning and trying to figure out who you are. You’re able to do and experience new things. It’s a wonderful time to do so, but with everything that will come your way, know that you should always be good to people. Always take the high road. Always be smart. Be as responsible as you can.  Don’t judge others. Be there for your friends. Be there for your family. You will make mistakes. We all do, but you will always learn from them. Trust your instincts. Trust your gut, and always, always, A L W A Y S be yourself. Don’t try to fit in. Do what makes you happy. Don’t just be humble. Don’t just be kind. Be Awesome. Be Amazing. Be Great. Most importantly– Be You!

“Go to church ’cause your mamma says to. Visit grandpa every chance that you can. It won’t be wasted time. Always stay humble and kind.”

Never take spending time with your family, and elders for granted. It might not seem like it, but when you get older you learn to appreciate the time you spend with them. Not just with them, but with anyone dear to your heart. Always make time for people you love most. Even if you don’t want to. You’ll realize that it was well worth it in the long run. Always put G O D first. Say your prayers. Read your bible. Have Faith.  You will be blessed.

“Don’t expect a free ride from no one. Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why: Bitterness keeps you from flying. Always stay humble and kind.”

Nothing is handed to you. With success comes hard work. Anything worth having is absolutely worth working for. You have been blessed with the best family, and the amazing friends. Opportunity is everywhere for you. You will still have to put in that hard work. Being lazy is not an option. It won’t be easy, and sometimes you won’t win. You’ll have to pick up the pieces and try again, but don’t let failure stop you from going after your dreams. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re dreaming TOO big. Don’t let my expectations, or anyone else’s stop you from going after or doing what you love. Don’t let hate and anger brew in your heart. It will only keep you from going forward and experiencing the amazing things that are bound to come your way.

“Know the difference between sleeping with someone, and sleeping with someone you love. “I love you,” ain’t no pick-up line, so always stay humble and kind.”

Just… Wait on this… FOREVER. Just remember they’re lying. Okay?

“Hold the door, say “please”, say “thank you.” Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie. I know you got mountains to climb, but always stay humble and kind. When those dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you- When the work you put in is realized Let yourself feel the pride, but always stay humble and kind.”

Always mind your manners. Always remember what I tell about stealing, cheating, and lying. Life is hard, but it’s so enjoyable too! When things get hard, don’t let it change you for the worst. When you see all that hard work you’ve been putting in pay off, celebrate. You should absolutely celebrate your triumphs, but don’t let it get to your head. Your mommy will knock you down a few levels and humble you. B U T you should absolutely be proud of yourself!

“Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you. When you get where you’re going don’t forget to turn back around, and help the next one in line. Always stay humble and kind.”

Love is B E A U T I F U L. Life is B E A U T I F U L. Don’t forget you have been blessed, and to bless others as well. Do it out of the goodness of your heart. I know you will, because you have a heart of G O L D. If there existed a word to describe daughters like you, it would be the most beautiful word to ever be written. Happy Birthday, Kid!
