Portuguese Is Cheerful & Sweet Like A Language of Birds. ~ Paolo Rónai
Let’s Blog Over Ōporto…
Ohhhh Saturday- how you almost disappointed me! Today it rained, and rained, and rained, and then rained again. It looked like a monsoon outside, and I was terribly afraid that I’d be stuck in the house A L L day. Not that staying home is an issue, but it’s the first day of F A L L, and I wanted to spend my day at the opening weekend of Screamfest- or doing something fun outside… but because of the weather, that wasn’t something that was realistically going to happen. So after cuddling with Skylar, and staring out of the window for what seemed like forever, I looked over at her perfect face and asked “Wanna wing it?” in which she sweetly replied “Yea- let’s wing it!”
We ended up at the incredible Ōporto. There’s been a serious buzz going around midtown about this incredible establishment, and Saturday was my opportunity to see what the hype was all about. Once I arrived I was surprised to find out the restaurant had been completely booked by eager foodies like Skylar and myself. I was also very pleased that they were able to squeeze us in.
Our Daily Bread & Cataplana Mussels
Shrimp & Crab Pizzette
Lamb Ribs Mediterraneo
What I loved most is there welcoming ambiance, and varied menu of their modern, Portugal influenced flare. Our evening began with a selection of delectable “snacks” including freshly baked bread (Our Daily Bread) herbed olive oil. We also savored the shrimp and crab pizzette with basil tomato sauce, gulf shrimp, crab, and mozzarella cheese. The lamb ribs mediterrano blew us away. The lamb was smoked and completely savory, with accompaniments like coriander-fennel crusted, pomegranate molasses, white bean & chorizo, faro-radish salad. You will see me in the photo devouring this dish.
The main dishes are ideal for sharing and I highly recommend the Paelha Purtuguesa. The rich and scrumptious dish featured saffron rice, succulent hanger steak and gulf shrimp, along with bacalhau, clams, mussels, charred chili’s that gave a wood grilled aftertaste.
Make sure to pair with their impressive wine selection and creative cocktails. A perfect group dining destination where you can feast on a variety from the menu or grab a table for two for a memorable date night. The intimate setting, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and elevated menu make this an extremely welcome addition to the Midtown Houston dining scene.
