If You Don’t Like Something Change It. If You Can’t Change It, Change Your Attitude. ~Maya Angelou
Let’s Blog Over This Past Week…
“Americans believe in the reality of ‘race’ as a defined, indubitable gesture of the natural world. Racism – the need to ascribe to bone-deep features to people and then humiliates, reduces, and destroys them. But race is the child of racism, and not the father. And the process of naming ‘the people’ has never been a matter of genealogy and physiognomy so much as one of hierarchy. Difference in hue and hair that is old. But the belief in the preeminence of hue and hair, the notion that these factors correctly organize a society and that they signify deeper attributes, which are indelible – that is the new idea at the heart.” ~ Ta-Nehisi Coates
This past week there was a lot going on. If you follow me on instagram then you know how much my friends and I have spoken up about black lives matter, and the injustice of black people throughout this nation. We’ve donated. Houston showed up and showed up with over 60,000 people protesting in Discovery Green. Proud moment. We have promoted each other’s businesses, and have come together with other creators to promote theirs. We have educated. We have also accepted those friends that didn’t decide to just pull up, but they also used their platform to speak up. Proud moment.
With all of that, there was good news last week, and many things to celebrate. It served as a reminder that joy can still somehow be felt in the midst of anger, rage, and hopelessness. It served as a reminder that we must keep our momentum. We have to.
As we take this necessary step to come together in solidarity, know it doesn’t end here. Know the Black Lives Matter movement is not a trend, but one that should educate and force those who “don’t get it” to hold a mirror up to themselves and ask the necessary questions. Everyone has to do their part.
As we all mentally prepare for this upcoming week I pray that each and every single one of you is in this fight against racism, police brutality, and systematic oppression. Should you need any resources that range from petitions, and donation funds, to educational forums and a long list of black businesses you can support, me and my team are readily available to hand over those resources to you.
I am so proud of everyone that has taken the steps to make a change in this nation, and in this world.
Peace, Love, & Blessings
