“His Lips Drink Water, But His Heart Drinks Wine.” ~ E.E. Cummings
Let’s Blog Over Wine…
Food & Wine
I’m loving your culinary story telling on your instagram. So many people don’t know the history of the food they eat, and it’s so nice that you’ve brought visual culinary story telling to life. What made you do that?
I think it’s important to know the history behind dishes and why we eat them today. I think people just indulge, but knowing the origins of the dish can be so intriguing.
I tried your Yakamein recipe and it is to DIE FOR! My entire family enjoyed it. Is your focus right now on your home foods of New Orleans?
Thank you! Lately I’ve been eating a lot of foods that originate from New Orleans. The dishes I’ve been sharing lately are not only my favorite dishes since the beginning of my time here on earth, but ones that I love and also cook for my family. As of right now the theme is Taste of Home, but it’s going to transition soon to a new topic.
Hey Ralijah – Thanks for responding to my message on instagram. You posted a photo of wine chicken. Will you be posting that recipe? It looked delicious.
I will soon be posting that recipe.
What’s the worst thing that you’ve cooked?
Man!! LOL it is probably chocolate chicken. Wait… let me explain… One night Ralph and I were having movie date night and it was my turn to pick the movie. Of course he went to sleep. He blamed it on me not translating. The movie just happened to be one of my fave’s. Like Water For Chocolate. It’s such a great movie. It annoyed me that he fell asleep. So as he’s snoring in my neck I was watching Teta make chocolate chicken and I had the bright idea to try to make it. It looked so good in the movie. I tried to make it. Ralph hated it. I hated it. I threw the entire dish away and we went out to dinner that night. It automatically became date night! LOL!
I really miss your wine posts. What is your favorite chardonnay?
I’m sorry… My favorite chardonnay is Rombauer. It’s like butter. It’s so, so good. Price point is about $35.
Fashion & Beauty
I loved your red flannel shirt. It was so cute on your bump. Can you link?
Ralph bought that shirt for me. I think he got it from American Eagle, but I’m not sure.
Your hair is so long! Your brown hat was really nice. I’m looking for one similar. Where did you get yours?
Target! It’s not available anymore. Sorry.
You once mentioned that you dye your hair black. What is your natural hair color?
It’s a sandy brown. Black is the way to go! Since I’m pregnant I’ve been using a rinse though.
What’s the name of the deep purple lipstick you had on?
Sudden Plum Matte – Jumbo Pencil from Sephora. Unfortunately it’s no longer available in the states.
What’s your favorite moisturizer for hydrated skin?
Baby | Family | Friends
Where did you get Quatro’s monogrammed blanket?
Friday’s post is all about Quatro and all of his things.
You have been really open in regard to the abuse you suffered at the hands of your husband. My question is was there any warning signs? How does one move on from that? Do you feel that you can still be loyal to him since you’re pregnant with his child?
I don’t like talking bad about my husband. He’s still my husband for now. Our business should be just that – our business. However, he involved some folks without telling the truth and that led to a lot of things coming out and all of the evidence to go along with it. I have lost three friends in the past two weeks due to domestic violence and I have never felt the need to use my voice and speak up more than now. Were there warning signs? Absolutely not. I never in a million years thought my husband was capable of anything that he did since this year started. Never. Never, ever, ever! He was my absolute best friend. The entire love of my life. My whole heart. I never saw anything he did coming. How have I moved on from that? It’s a slow, long, emotional, painful process. Am I loyal to him? He is the father of my son. Our plan was to conceive this year, but again… he has offered no emotional, physical, or financial support to me or his son. He straight up does not care about his child. One that he really wanted. He has not shown any loyalty to me, but I’ve continuously taken the high road in this process. I just hope he comes to his senses and can be a good father to our son. If not his ass will be in a jail, lol.
Your friendship with your friend Ro is SO FUNNY. She literally roasts you all day. How do you two feel during your pregnancies?
She’s due to give birth next week. She keeps me laughing and entertained though. She’s a true, and genuine friend – clearly. I would say my pregnancy journey has been nothing short of nuts. I’m getting bigger. It’s getting harder to do things, and it’s been high risk. She’s also had her fair share of issues with this being her first pregnancy as well. I will say that she – along with some other pregnant friends of mine – have been super supportive and a great group of girls to have during this time.
All the men in your family seem to have colored eyes. At least the ones that I’ve seen on your stories. Do you think Quatro will have colored eyes as well?
Man when this blonde haired, blue eyed baby hits ya’ll’s timeline I don’t want to hear NOTHING! lol! I’m just kidding… Honestly I don’t know. I’m eager to see. Right now he’s looking so much like his dad. His cute little face! It can go so many different ways just because of my family alone. I know he’ll have curls. I’m hoping he doesn’t have red hair though, lol. If he has colored eyes then so be it. He’ll get it from my side. I just… it’s the craziest thing because I think about how he’ll look all the time. I can’t wait to meet my little one. Right now he definitely is taking after his dad though.
“Whaddup Thug Life?” LOL! Your relationship with your parents is so cool! How did you build a relationship like that with your folks?
Ummm – well I was always allowed to be myself. We definitely have our disagreements. My mom is religious, and against celebrating Halloween. She’s super fashionable, but she believes that a woman should be just that… a lady. Love, marriage, then sex. No shacking up, and all that extra. I got off track during my teen years and completely rebelled and did everything I could to cause my parents to have a heart attack. MINUS the sex! Didn’t do that. I was never one to do that. I did move out at 17 and didn’t tell them. Just went to the courts to get it done. I’m a sad case. To say we’ve been through a lot is an understatement, and through it all they’ve supported me and my decisions even if they didn’t agree with them. They gave me space to make mistakes and learn from those experiences. I’ve learned life lessons. What I appreciate about them is that they’re not people to judge. They’ll say it’s a lesson learned. Even with this situation with Ralph. They will not get involved. They are quick to say that’s between you and your husband and it should stay between you and your husband. They never bash him or say anything bad. My family is just like that… We’re just cool and laid back until we’re not. Then it’s NOT a good thing.
Your down comforter looks really thick and comfortable. Please link?
The one I currently have was a gift from my brother. I have low iron, and I’m always, always cold. He wanted me to be comfortable in my pregnancy. He got it here. There are some more affordable ones at Target. I’ve bought a few from there.
The most gorgeous girl with the most gorgeous taste! What’s your take on natural light?
Ohhhh good question. I think those are the best kinds of pictures to take. Especially with natural lighting. I’m all about natural lighting. While yes, successful design is about Palette. Materiality. Form. And Composition – never underestimate the power of natural light and how you engage with it and how you filter it can significantly alter a space.
I am in love with your kitchen. What was the inspiration behind the dark and the white?
Well that’s my personality. I’m dark and light. It’s just my vibe. I gravitate towards either really, really dark colors (black being my favorite. Or White. Dark and stormy.
What’s your inspiration for your kitchen?
Darkness and lightness. A blend of both.
Your roses you picked up were gorgeous and I loved your how to story of putting a floral arrangement together. Where did you learn that and where is your favorite place to grab flowers in Houston?
I just recently learned that from a florist friend of mine. Ralph used to buy me flowers and I’d just put them in a vase with flower food. When I actually went to pick the flowers it was a different story. I got these from the Farmer’s Market. I like Trader Joes, and Whole Foods as well. Ralph has a shop that he got all of our wedding flowers from. Seriously the most beautiful flowers, but I have no idea where it is. I’ll have to find out and share that with you guys.
